Reading: Luke 24:36-53
Reflection: “You are my witnesses.” Now in my mid-thirties, I spend a lot of time thinking about what it means to be a witness to the resurrection. We, in the 21st Century, are at an historical disadvantage. We are living in “post-” times: post-modern, post-enlightenment, post-Christian, and sadly, post-fact. When we look back to our ancestors in the faith, we see that their Christian faith was not entirely a shopping list of beliefs. To be sure, there was a list of beliefs that made you orthodox, i.e. in the mainstream, but more than the thoughts in your head, the thing that proved you were a Christian was your transformed life. How shall be we witnesses in this “post-” world? How shall we be witnesses in the Covid-19 world? How about in a post-Covid-19 world?
Prayer: O Lord, when your Son ascended into heaven he sent down upon the Apostles the Holy Spirit, as he had promised, that they might comprehend the mysteries of the kingdom: Distribute among us also, we pray, the gifts of the selfsame Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
