A Message from our Campus Minister

Dear Friends in Christ:

When this semester began, it was with the usual sense of excitement and anticipation. As we are all aware, the situation has changed, universities are closing to in-person classes, students are being required to leave their university housing, and we are all entering a time of uncertainty.

It goes without saying, but all in-person activities at the Chapel will be canceled or postponed until it is safe to gather again. However, St. A’s will continue to minister to the entire university community: students, faculty, and staff.

First, during this time, I am available to you. Even though we won’t see each other in person, I am still your campus minister. If you need a meal, groceries, paper towels, or even toilet paper, let me know. If you need someone to talk to because you’re tired of being socially isolated, reach out to me. If you have a question and don’t know where to start to find an answer, give me a call and we’ll try to find an answer together. I will do everything in my power to help you through these difficult days.

Also, beginning on Monday, March 23rd and continuing through the end of the semester, St. A’s will publish an evening prayer podcast. It will be a short evening devotion with a reading from the Gospel and prayers. I have also invited several young adults to contribute to this podcast. They will talk about their experience during this epidemic. The podcast is called “You Belong Here” can be found here: https://soundcloud.com/user-311255564 or on our Facebook page. More information will be forthcoming about podcast soon.

As a Christian community, our hope is founded in the Vindicated and Risen Christ. We are each members of his Body and as such we are family to one another, so take care of each other. Wash your hands, stay physically distant as much as possible, and reach out to others. These are trying times and it is normal and fine to feel sad, frustrated, and confused and to express those feelings. You are not alone. Even if we cannot meet in person, You belong here.

Grace and Peace,
Rob Coulston

What is St. A’s?

St. A’s is a refuge. If you need a place to study, a cup of coffee or tea, someone to talk to, or just a quiet place to be still, we’re here for you. Nobody is alone, there’s always someone willing to listen, go for a walk with you, or watch a movie with you. Our community is here for you.

Supported by our roots in the Episcopal and Lutheran traditions, we will be an accessible community at the University of Kentucky and Transylvania University for all who seek an open and honest relationship with God through Jesus Christ for personal and communal transformation and renewal.

St. Augustine’s is open to all members of the University Community regardless of race, age, gender, culture, ability, ethnicity, nation of origin, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, martial status, pregnancy, religious beliefs and affiliation, military status, socioeconomic status, or any other child of God you can think of. God loves you just the way you are.
