Don’t let the word “rule” put you off. Here, the rule is simply the way we have decided to order and organize our life together as a group of Christians on campus. These are the things we hold as important. It’s kind of like a constitution.
Our Rule is organized around our core values: Love, Worship, Prayer, Service, Giving, and Retreat.
As children of God called into the St. Augustine’s Community at UK, we strive to love the world as Jesus loves us. — The most basic element to the Christian life is love. Unconditional, unstoppable love. We choose to practice loving others as much as God first loved us. We strive to have open hearts, welcoming everyone as they are, wherever they are on their journey, and we strive to listen to the Spirit speaking through everyone in our community.
As children of God called into the St. Augustine’s Community at UK, we strive to participate weekly in the community worship service God calls us to. — As Christians, we proclaim that within the one God there is a community of perfect love and community and that to be faithful disciples of Jesus of Nazarath, we must also participate in a community of faith. As children of God called into the St. Augustine’s Community at UK, we strive to grow in our personal prayer life and in our relationship to Jesus. — Like any relationship, our relationship with God only stays healthy and grows if we take time to be in communication. It’s also a good way to stay centered in our daily life. See the daily prayer page for some ideas.
As children of God called into the St. Augustine’s Community at UK, we strive to share the Good News of God in Christ through acts of individual and community service. — Jesus took time to serve the people around him in the ways he could and we choose to pattern our lives on Jesus. We will take time to go out into the community to serve the world in Christ’s name in the ways we can.
As children of God called into the St. Augustine’s Community at UK, we strive to give back from the gifts God has given us by giving of our financial and other resources. — King David said, “All things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” God has given us many different kinds of resources, including money. We will give a portion of the resources God has given us to support the world.
As children of God called into the St. Augustine’s Community at UK, we strive to actively take time away from the stresses of University life. — Retreat gives us a chance to get away from the everyday and get ourselves back in order, so a couple times a year we like to get out of the university bubble and relax and recharge.
