Reading: Matthew 18:18-20
Reflection: Today’s reading talks about loosing and binding things on earth and in heaven. One of the most important parts of the mission that God has given us is to in the words of Isaiah “to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour,” (Isaiah 61:1-2). We are each called to bind and unbind people and things in our lives. For example, forgivness unbinds us from carrying around the baggage of others sins. (That doesn’t meet forgetting or being a door mat but that’s a different reflection.) God calls each one of us to a particular way of binding or unbinding the world. We usually call that vocation. Where has God called us as a community, and you in particular, to bring the Good News of liberation today? What can be bound or unbound in your own life and the world around you that will bring God’s reign of love and freedom to light today?
Prayer: God of peace, guide us on the path that leads to freedom for us and for all your children. Amen.
