The Listening Post

Happy Tuesday!

This past weekend was a bit of a whirlwind for me. Part of my weekend was going to a campus ministry committee meeting at the Indiana-Kentucky Synod HQ in Indianapolis, IN. It was a great chance to meet my colleagues and get inspired.

The greatest inspiration I got during the meeting was listening to a couple of people talk about “listening posts”. A listening post is when someone sets up a sign saying “I’m here to talk” and allows folks to engage with them if they want to. It is low stakes, non-confrontational, and a ministry of presence. I’m sure it’s been tried before, but I want to revive it, for my own sake and for the campus community.

Starting tomorrow, I am going to take two days each week, Monday and Wednesday, and be available at a location from 12 PM to 2 PM. That may change but I’ll start there. Tomorrow I’ll be at Coffea.

If you think you know a great location or better times, let me know. Also, if you think you might know someone who needs to talk but would never step foot in the Chapel, let them know where I am. I’ll check in on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and try to make sure my location is on this blog.

I’m looking forward to this experiment.

Grace and peace, Rob
