I don’t have much to say today. There is so much in this world that breaks my heart, so I want to start by telling you, I love you.
We live in a Good Friday world but we are called to live as Easter people. We live in the now-but-not-yet, and we wait expectantly, doing the work God calls us to for the healing of this world and and as far as I can tell, that means that everything we do begins and ends with love. Not a thin, soupy milquetoast love, but God’s fiery, passionate, all-consuming love. The love permeates the whole creation. The love that liberates us from the Egpyts and Pharaohs of our lives. The love that leads us home from exile. The love that binds up our broken hearts. The love that became truly human in Jesus of Nazareth. The love that was nailed to a cross. The love that was raised from the tomb and broke the bars of death. The love we are called to have for our world.
Everything we do, as children of God, must begin and end in love. So tell your friends and family you love them today. Tell your enemies you love them today. Tell everyone you love them today. We don’t have more than today to do anything, so begin and end with love. Let’s make this Good Friday world into an Easter world through love. So I’ll say it again. I love you.
